A Closer Look At The Dukan Diet

Many people want to lose weight quickly and there are many diets that can help you to achieve this goal. However, some diets are more effective than others and one of the most effective diets is the dukan diet. This diet will allow you to quickly lose a lot of weight, without ever being hungry. It is a fantastic diet for people who want to eat a lot of food but lose weight in the process. The dukan diet was created by Dr. Pierre Dukan in the 1970s when he had to design a diet for an obese patient who indicated that he could cut out any food group, besides meat. The diet he came up with resulted in such impressive weight loss that he published a book called “The Dukan Diet” so that others could benefit from it.

It is important to note that this diet is a high protein, low carbohydrate diet. There are basically four phases in this diet which includes two weight loss phases as well as two maintenance phases. The four phases are the attack phase, cruise phase, consolidation phase and the stabilization phase. The length of each phase would depend on how much weight you need to lose. We will now take a closer look at each one of the phases.

In the first, attack phase, this typically lasts between 1 – 7 days. It is the beginning of the diet where you are allowed to eat as much protein you want, in unlimited quantities. However, you will also need to consume 1.5 tbsps of oat bran every day. Next, in the cruise phase, you will have to eat protein on one day and then protein with non starchy vegetables on the next. You will have to alternative between these two diets for the period of this phase. Two tablespoons of oat bran will also have to be consumed on each day. This phase will typically take between 1 – 12 months to complete.

The third phase is the consolidation phase and the time frame for this phase is variable. During this phase, you will eat lean protein, vegetables, fats and some carbs. You will have to eat only protein for one day per week and increase your oat bran consumption to 2.5 tablespoons per day. Lastly, the stabilization phase is almost the same as the consolidation phase, however, the rules can be loosened if your weight loss remains stable. You will also need to eat 3 tablespoons of oat bran per day during this phase.

This is an extremely effective diet since most people will lose weight following its high protein and low carb model. Weight loss mainly occurs because more calories are burned due to gluconeogenesis and your body’s metabolic rate increases on this diet. Also, by eating more protein, your hunger and appetite will naturally reduce, which causes you to consume fewer calories, resulting in weight loss.

In conclusion, the dukan diet is highly effective and definitely worth trying. So, be sure to follow the guidelines above and I am certain that you will attain your goal weight.
